On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, more than 92 T. Rowe Price Associates participated in community volunteer activities at five nonprofits. During the remainder of the summer, a total of 18 projects will be identified, developed and managed by T. Rowe Price volunteers, in partnership with Business Volunteers Unlimited. Before the end of the summer, 321 individuals will have contributed over 1500 hours of volunteer service with a value of approximately $35,000.
Sustainability is one of T.Rowe’s strategic priorities for 2010 and to launch their efforts, 20 associates participated in a project that took place at the Jones Falls Watershed Association (JFWA). Volunteers participated in trash cleanups, water quality monitoring, and buffer plantings with the goal of improving land and water quality.
During the event, volunteers saved 240 trees, which will have a tremendous environmental impact in years to come. Because of the work of volunteers, approximately 84,000 gallons of stormwater runoff and 4,800 pounds of air pollutants will be captured in a year. By working on these restoration efforts, volunteers will save the organization approximately $2,000 in labor costs. This project channeled over 60 volunteer hours valued at over $1,300.
“T.Rowe Price puts great value on employee volunteerism” said Nan Bambara, Director of Business Relations at Business Volunteers Unlimited. “BVU makes the strategic link to those organizations in the community with the most need which makes our partnership a great success. The return on investment for all involved is exponential as there’s nothing like direct community service to boost employee morale – it’s a win-win.”
