J.D. Neuhaus, a subsidiary of the German family-based J.D. Neuhaus GmbH, has been driver for progress and innovation since 1745. The growing engineering company has held close to its founder’s core values and continues to make a difference in the communities where it operates. Throughout the past years J.D. Neuhaus has demonstrated its involvement in various ways of giving and supporting local nonprofits and their clients.
Throughout the first few months of 2011, J.D. Neuhaus partnered with Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU) to present team members with a number of different volunteer opportunities, encouraging every team member to pick one and participate. On February 15, 2011, a group of employees prepared and shared a meal, with the residents of The Baltimore Station, a residential treatment program for addictions recovery.
Business Volunteers Unlimited also connected them to PACT, a nonprofit dedicated to development of children with special needs. On March 22nd, the J.D. Neuhaus team hosted a family pizza party and rolled up their sleeves to clean parts of the facility. In April, another group of employees visited The Samaritan Women to help with the organization’s farm initiative.
The opportunities for volunteerism have left a noticeable impression on J.D. Neuhaus team members. “Volunteering and spending our day with the kids at PACT was a rewarding experience and we look forward to coordinating to volunteer on a more regular basis, ” said Carol White , Director of Human Resources. "I personally found spending a few hours interacting with the children during the pizza party we organized was such a special experience. Our volunteers really enjoyed the opportunity, and I’m so happy that BVU helped us find a great organization like PACT that make it possible." Carol has also participated in several of BVU’s Corporate Roundtable events, engaging in conversations about employee volunteering programs and service needs in Baltimore.
Further demonstrating J.D. Neuhaus’ long-term commitment to Greater Baltimore, company President Frank Endler was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Baltimore Museum of Industry. His training during BVU’s Board Leadership Program and background in industrial engineering made him a perfect match to help the museum pursue its mission.
BVU salutes J.D. Neuhaus’ tremendous dedication to making volunteerism a part of team culture and offering its employees multiple ways to make a difference.
