Business Volunteers Unlimited Maryland (BVU) announced a new partnership with Target® to organize a volunteer day of service for Target team members at Fredrick Douglas High School in Baltimore City on MLK Day, Monday, January 19, 2009 beginning 8:30 a.m.
“The $25,000 grant from Target is the largest single corporate contribution for a BVU Day of Service,” said Nan Bambara, Director of Business Relations for BVU. “This marks a great start to a partnership between BVU and Target.”
The grant will be used during the Target Day of Service for extensive renovation of the high school fitness center and JROTC wing. The grant includes money to buy new workout and weight training equipment. The grant to BVU is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5 percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today, that translates to more than $3 million every week.
“At Target, our local grants are making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Laysha Ward, vice president, community relations, Target. “We’re proud to partner with Business Volunteers Unlimited as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.”
BVU inspires volunteerism by connecting motivated people and businesses with the nonprofits and communities that need them most. As the primary resource for recruiting, developing and organizing volunteers in the Greater Baltimore area, BVU has referred more than 50,000 people to meaningful volunteer opportunities. Through its extensive network of more than 350 nonprofit organizations, BVU has organized over 400 service projects in Baltimore City and the surrounding region.
